How to Print at Exact 100% Scale

Our vector engine computes every grid line and rule pitch to 0.01 mm precision. To ensure your physical ruler matches the printed sheet perfectly, configure your printer driver using these settings.

The "Fit to Printable Area" Trap

Almost all modern operating systems turn on "Fit" or "Shrink" by default. This causes a 5.0 mm grid to physically print at roughly 4.7 mm. You must explicitly change this setting before hitting Print.

Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge / Brave

  1. Press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac).
  2. Click on More settings in the print preview column.
  3. Locate the Scale dropdown. Change it from Default to Custom.
  4. Set the custom scale input value to exactly 100.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

  1. Open the downloaded PDF file inside Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Open the Print menu (Ctrl + P / Cmd + P).
  3. Under Page Sizing & Handling, select the radio option for Actual size.
  4. Uncheck "Choose paper source by PDF page size" if your physical paper tray differs.

macOS Preview

  1. Double-click the downloaded file to view in Preview.
  2. Press Cmd + P.
  3. In the settings dropdown, select Scale instead of Scale to Fit.
  4. Type 100% into the scale percentage box.

Quick Physical Verification Test

After your first test print, grab an ordinary ruler. If you printed 5mm Graph Paper, 10 grid cells must measure exactly 5.0 centimeters. If you printed 1/4" Quad Paper, 4 cells must span exactly 1.0 inch.

Calibration FAQs

Why did my 5mm grid print smaller than 5 millimeters?

Most print dialogs default to 'Fit to Printable Area' or 'Shrink Oversized Pages'. This automatically reduces the canvas scale by 3% to 6% to accommodate non-printable hardware borders. Switch your scaling setting to '100%' or 'Actual Size'.

Can I print US Letter templates on an A4 printer?

Yes, but to retain true millimeter accuracy without edge clipping, select A4 in our studio customizer before downloading your PDF rather than letting your printer re-scale a Letter PDF.

What paper weight is recommended for double-sided printing?

For zero ghosting or ink bleed-through with fountain pens or wet gel ink, use 24 lb bond (90 gsm) or 28 lb bond (105 gsm) paper stock.
